Trump Dismisses 'Fake' Polls Showing His Approval Rating At Record Lows

Warren, Michigan, April 29, 2025 – President Donald Trump marked his 100th day in office with a rally in Warren, Michigan, on Tuesday, where he highlighted his administration’s immigration policies, defended his economic performance, and lashed out at judges blocking his executive actions. Trump also dismissed recent polls showing his approval ratings at near-record lows, calling them “fake.”

This rally, his first since winning the 2024 election, came despite his term limits. Trump appeared to relish speaking to a supportive crowd in Macomb County, even as his first few months in office were marked by struggling financial markets, declining global trust, and early signs of a potential economic recession.

“I miss you guys. I miss the campaign,” Trump said, addressing his supporters.

Ahead of his visit, Trump signed an executive order pausing some of the 25% import tariffs he had imposed on autos and related car parts, offering relief to Detroit’s automakers. The move marked a retreat from the global tariffs he had introduced earlier this year, which had sparked backlash from U.S. allies and worried business leaders and Republican lawmakers.

“I’m giving them a little bit of a break, right?” Trump said of the automakers. “Somebody would say, ‘Oh, well, that’s a change.’ It’s not, it’s called a little flexibility. The guys were crying. They love it. Everything’s good.”

Trump also addressed concerns about rising grocery prices, particularly the cost of eggs, claiming they were coming down, despite evidence to the contrary. He continued his defense of his controversial immigration policies, blaming federal judges for obstructing many of his executive orders.

“Judges are trying to take away the power given to the president to keep our country safe, and it’s not a good thing,” Trump said. “But I hope for the sake of our country that the Supreme Court is going to save this.”

According to CNN, Trump’s approval rating stands at 41%, the lowest for any newly elected president at the 100-day mark, a trend stretching back to President Dwight Eisenhower. His approval rating on economic issues dropped 5 percentage points from March, reaching a career low of 39%. A recent Fox News survey also reported Trump’s approval at 44%.

“They do these polls where they interview far more Democrats than Republicans,” Trump claimed, offering no evidence to back his statement. “These people are a bunch of crooked people.”

Trump boasted about his administration’s achievements, despite the polls. “We’ve accomplished more in three months than most administrations accomplished in four years, or even eight years, and we’re just getting started,” he said. “Believe me, we’re just getting started.”

Meanwhile, Democrats have seized on Trump’s approval woes, predicting that his record could impact next year’s midterm elections. Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin issued a statement, criticizing the president’s economic policies.

“While Donald Trump lives in his delusions, Michigan families – along with millions of working families across this country – are forced to live with the consequences of his dangerous, chaotic, and economy-destroying agenda,” Martin said. “Trump promised to keep auto plants open. They closed. Trump promised to bring down prices. They’re spiking. Trump promised a ‘golden age.’ Instead we got the Dark Ages.”
